Theresa Marie Calluori Artist Bio
Born and raised in New Jersey, Theresa studied fine art at Rutgers University,Newark campus and printmaking at the Pratt Graphics Center, New York. She has used her artistic skills to teach both the blind and mentally challenged adults. She created her own genre called “Fruitscapes,” a cross between a landscape and a still life. Her recent work still includes lots of fruit and a new series of “Fish Dinners.” She states, “We all need more fruit and fish in our diets.” Although she is known locally for her fruit paintings, especially her “Erotic Pears in Thongs” series, her female torsos are most intriguing. The bodies were given to her by a friend who said, “I’m sure you can do something with these.” And thus “The Weapons of Mass Distraction” were conceived. These sculptural works say something about both women and men as objects, appliances, and toys. They are all at the same time erotic, serious, and just plain amusing. Are they a product of a twisted mind or a mind just doing the Twist? Experience them for yourself. Contact: tmcalluori@mindspring.com
